When you begin your journey as a real estate investor, what you are really doing is starting a real estate business.

Let that sink in a moment.

You are starting your own real estate business.

Does that fill you with excitement? Fear? Nervousness? Probably all of the above, but the only way to find success is to get out of your comfort zone, because that is where you will find true growth.

It’s Your Real Estate Business

The first thing you are going to need to do is to figure out what type of business you want to be. You need to create a mission statement and develop core values, which you will use to guide your new real estate business.

Do you want to do fix and flips, rentals, buy and sell notes? Do you want to specialize in a certain area, or perhaps a certain type of real estate, whether it be residential, commercial, mobile homes etc.

There are many ways to earn a living in real estate, but the path you take is ultimately up to you.

Fake It Til You Make It

Don’t expect to be a master negotiator on day one. Have good scripts and use them. Pretty soon, you’ll find the conversations come more naturally. Just because I said earlier you need to get out of your comfort zone, does not mean you should not be prepared.

The easiest way to look like a professional is to, well, look like a professional. Get business cards made from a reputable printer like Vista Print. Dress for success, show up for appointments early, network with like minded professionals in your area. Before you know it, you’ll fit in, and it will be a huge benefit to your real estate business.

Education is Key

If real estate was easy, everyone would be doing it.

You need to know what to do, why you are doing it, and most importantly, how to do it. On top of that, you need the pig-headed determination to make a plan and stick to it, to see your dream through to the end.

The quickest and easiest way to do that is to find someone you know, like and trust, and get as close to them as possible. They say smart people learn from their mistakes, but wise people learn from others’. Find someone whose experience you can lean on, and it will help you accelerate the growth of your real estate business.

I don’t just tell you this because I am a real estate mentor, I say it because it is the truth. Sure, with the information from one of my books or courses, you can definitely do it on your own. Many people have. I can’t tell you how great it feels when someone tells me they bought and sold their first HUD home after reading my book.

But, when you work directly with my team and me, you can do it faster. We will shorten the learning curve, give you experience to lean on, and give you the confidence you need to close deals.
